Vivid Descriptions of Characters in "Revolt of the Mother"

In "Revolt of the "Mother"" by Mary E. Wilkins Freeman, the plot is simple but yet the descriptions of the characters are very vivid. Nanny is described to have a "tender, sweet face", as "pink and delicate as a flower", with a "forehead [as] bald and innocent as a baby's." I feel that Nanny's innocence is over emphasized to contribute to her sense of innocence while also contrasting and highlighting Mrs. Penn' sense of heroism. Though "Mother" is not introduced with a vivid description, Wilkens uses words such as "vigorously" and "fierce" when discussing her actions.
